About Us

OUR MISSION
Thing on Wheels strives for the alleviation of poverty and to uplift communities. Our mission is to feed, educate, advocate and work for the people living in poverty. We want to transform peoples lives, futures and communites.

OUR VISION
Our work aims to break the vicious cycle of poverty and social isolation and to restore hope for a better future. We believe that every person has the right to access resources and opportunities in order to live and develop with dignity and to become an active and contributing member of our society. We strive to create a world where no person at no time, should go hungry! No person should be hungry for nutrition, education, shelter, medical services and opportunities to achieve their full potential.

OUR VALUES
* Commitment: to the people we help and their transformation. We are committed to loving and serving those who are poor and marginalized in the developing world, striving to enable lasting improvement in their lives, families, and communities. The needs, expectations, and wellbeing of families in poverty inspire everything we do.

* Respect: consideration shown to all people and commitment to teamwork. We operate on the basis of respect for all people; in particular, we aim to fully value everyone and to affirm personal dignity and uniqueness. This respect also is the foundation for our relationships with communities and others involved in our work – including supporters, investors, program partners, and service providers.

* Integrity: living our values with transparency and consistency.
We honor the trust placed in us by the families we serve, supporters, investors, program partners, service providers, and staff, endeavoring to manage all our resources transparently, reflecting our motivation. We aim to do the right things for the right reasons, whether or not anyone will know

Our Projects

DAILY
On a daily basis we feed an estimated 600 less fortunate children at 490 different schools across the Western Cape. Children who’s parents or guardians cannot afford to pack them lunch to school.

MONTHLY
Projects on a monthly basis include feeding in various townships and informal settlements in an around the Western Cape.

ANNUALLY
Every year we do a school shoes drive where we handout shoe schools to pupils at low income schools. We also do Winter Blanket Drives where we handout blankets to the less fortunate in our communities.
We host a 5km WheelWalk at Sea Point Promenade for wheelchair bound citizens and able bodied people.
We source, pack and distribute 1 200 food parcels in one day to our elderly and needy citizens across the Western Cape.
Every year we also take 3 days of shows at the Cape Town Jive Funny Festival.
We host our donors, volunteers and the general public at our dinner evening where we entertain them as well as to handover gifts and donations to the smaller charities and institutions which we support throughout the year.

This year we did a community Market Day where community members could sell their goods and earn an income for free.

SIDE PROJECTS
When we come across a case where someone needs life altering surgery and don’t have funding for it, we work with that person and their family to raise the funds to make the surgery a reality. We will also do fundraising for disabled sports persons that need to attend international events and have to pay for their own accommodation and flights.
